In 1971-72 God rescued me (the author) from being an agnostic physicist by showing me that He is real and at work in both vital and trivial personal matters. In 1972 I started reading the Bible and other literature to see what other people had discovered about "God". I had recently discovered that He is so intimate and personal, even though I had missed or not recognized His presence so completely in my first 27 years -- especially in my last ten of them.

I had believed that I had lived in a basically Christian society and knew the basic contents of the Bible. I had a bias that the Bible was simplistic, inaccurate, and full of contradictions, but I knew of no specific one. Within a few months I discovered how completely wrong I had been about all of this. What Jesus said about God surprised me and -- while confirming my own discoveries -- revealed more truths about God than I was able to put together from my own subjective experiences with Him in the past year. Soon after this I realized that Jesus and the Bible were God's most authoritative sources of truth about Himself, more than my own subjective interpretations of what God seemed to be showing me in my life experiences. I also learned that Jesus is truly Lord over all in spite of appearances, and that He had saved me from my sins and was giving me real truth and life.

Since then God has continually worked in every situation in my life with the grace, truth, and love in Christ Jesus -- even as He does with each believer in Him. He has also kept me in fellowship with other Christians. In 1980 I believe that He opened up the basic picture of how the Minor Prophets in the Bible show what has been and is happening in nations before our eyes.
